Tsuba Pick in ‘Joker’ Kirinite with a gold enamel wash to highlight the
detail, 31.5 mm tall, 22.5 mm wide and 6.5 mm thick.
A ‘Tsuba’ is the hand guard of a Japanese Katana sword.
It served several purposes. The Tsuba balanced the sword. And it protected the
hand of the sword holder from an attack by an enemy as well as from gliding
into the sword blade. The third purpose was a more refined one and originals
are highly sought by collectors.
